Five candidates express interest in PNC vice presidency

While the party’s senate will elect individuals to these leadership positions, the PNC charter mandates that the position of party president be held by the sitting President of the Republic.

Five candidates have expressed interest in contesting for the position of Vice President of the People's National Congress (PNC).
The party's congress is scheduled to be held this coming September.
Those vying for the position include senior government ministers and members of Parliament. Among them are Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed, Youth Minister Abdulla Rafiu, Baarashu MP Ibrahim Shujaau, Government Spokesperson Mohamed Hussain Shareef, and Nilandhoo MP Fathimath Sauda, all of whom have expressed interest in the role.
The People's National Congress (PNC) has decided that its deputy presidents will be elected by the party's Senate during the upcoming congress. In addition to the deputy positions, elections will also be held for other senior leadership roles, with the exception of the party's president and chairperson.
According to the People's National Congress (PNC) charter, when the party is in power, the President of the Republic shall serve as the Party President, and the Chairperson must be an individual appointed by the President. Currently, the President of the PNC is President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
