The People's National Congress (PNC) has compensated for the damages caused to state property during a violent altercation at Kamil Didi Primary School in Hulhumale' during the party's internal elections. While the Elections Commission has decided not to take further punitive action against the PNC following the settlement, the police are continuing their investigation into the physical violence that occurred during the incident.

The ruling People's National Congress (PNC) has paid compensation for damages caused to state property during a major altercation near a ballot box in Hulhumale' during the party's internal elections.

Hassan Zakariyya, a member and spokesperson of the Elections Commission (EC), informed RaajjeMV that the People’s National Congress (PNC) has now paid the required compensation to the school following the unrest.

Noting that no further action was taken as compensation had already been provided, Hassan stated that the PNC has been urged to be more vigilant and to rectify its procedures. He added that the party has been requested to plan its activities in a manner that ensures no damage is caused to state property.

Regarding the matter, the Ministry of Education stated that compensation has been provided for the damaged property and noted that further details will be disclosed at a later date.

The unrest during this election occurred on July 11, 2026, at Kamil Didi Primary School, where the polling station for the North Hulhumale constituency was located.

Three individuals have previously been arrested in connection with this case. Police are continuing their investigation into the matter.

Videos of the incident circulating on social media show several PNC members engaging in a violent physical altercation. The footage also reveals significant damage to state property within the school. The videos clearly depict individuals throwing chairs and other equipment, resulting in the destruction of premises.
