Indian national arrested for attempting to enter VIA without authorization

An Indian national has been arrested for attempting to enter Velana International Airport without authorization.

According to a Criminal Court order, Sanjeeva Reddy Yelma, a 45-year-old Indian national, has been arrested on charges of attempting to trespass into a property without authorization.

On August 25, 2026, he was remanded in custody for a period of 15 days.

The court order stated that sufficient evidence has been presented to establish a reasonable suspicion that the individual committed the alleged offense.

In this regard, the Aviation and Port Security Command submitted several documents to the police, including the formal complaint and incident report. The submission also included statements provided to investigators by the aviation security officer testifying in the case, as well as a photograph of the permit allegedly used by the suspect. Additionally, authorities provided a copy of the passport belonging to the individual to whom the permit was originally issued, alongside documentation confirming that their work visa had been canceled. Copies of the suspect’s passport and employment approval documents were also submitted as part of the investigation.

Furthermore, the court has determined that his arrest was conducted in accordance with legal procedures. Police testified that the individual attempted to gain unauthorized entry into the restricted area of Velana International Airport through Gate 51 on the eastern side, using an access control pass issued to another person by the Aviation and Port Security Command.

However, he denied the allegations in court. He further stated that the pass had been given to him by his boss.

Police are conducting a further investigation into the matter.
