License of captain suspended following hit-and-run sea collision

The vessel, which fled the scene of the accident that left five people injured, was located in the Hulhumalé lagoon on August 22, and authorities are currently conducting a further investigation into the matter.

The captain's license of a vessel has been suspended after it fled the scene of a collision with a speedboat.
According to information shared with the media by the police, the incident occurred on the night of July 9 this year. The accident took place off Izzudheen Jetty, involving a collision between a speedboat named "Legion 1" and a boat.
Police stated that as part of the investigation, efforts were made to identify and locate the vessel after it fled the scene without stopping following the accident.
As part of these efforts, police reported that the vessel was located anchored in the Hulhumale' lagoon at approximately 17:52 on the evening of the 22nd of this month.
Police have conducted a search of the vessel and gathered information necessary for the investigation. Authorities further stated that after verifying the required details, they have questioned the captain of the boat regarding the incident.
Furthermore, police confirmed that the captain's license has been suspended as part of the ongoing investigation.
Police stated that the Maldives Police Service is conducting a further investigation into the matter.
Police have stated that the five individuals transported to IGM Hospital following the incident include four foreign nationals and one Maldivian man.
Videos and photos of the incident circulating on social media show that the speedboat, named "LGN 101," sustained extensive damage. One side of the vessel was severely crushed, and the seating area was completely destroyed. The footage also depicts several passengers who appear to have suffered serious injuries.
