Residents and the local council of Dhaalu Kudahuvadhoo have expressed deep concern over the prolonged lack of essential services in the island's newly inhabited area, which is hindering families prepared to relocate to their new homes.
The local council has expressed concern to RaajjeTV over the unfulfilled campaign promises made by the constituency's PNC Member of Parliament. According to the council, MP Hussain Hameed had pledged during his parliamentary campaign that water, sanitation, and electricity services would be established in the area shortly after his election.
However, the council noted that nearly two years later, these facilities have yet to be established in the region.
Many residents have already completed their home construction using bank loans, with some now fully prepared to move in. However, the Council noted that they are unable to do so as essential utility services have yet to be established.
Furthermore, the council noted that while efforts were made to create the impression that the project was being mobilized ahead of the local council elections, no actual progress has been made on the ground. However, the constituency's Member of Parliament continues to maintain that the necessary materials for the project are currently in transit.
The council noted that despite requesting an appointment with the ministry to obtain an update on the matter, they have yet to be granted the opportunity.
According to the council, they have received informal information from the Utility Regulatory Authority (URA) indicating that no budget has been allocated for this project within the current year. Consequently, the council expressed concern over the apparent discrepancy between the statements made by the constituency's Member of Parliament and the official stance of the government.
During the most recent land allocation, 350 plots were issued from this area.
