Local residents and the council have also raised grievances regarding the design of the new T-jetty, noting that it is narrower than the previous structure and will likely hinder cargo operations. With no definitive completion date in sight, the community remains deeply concerned about the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the project.

The Kudahuvadhoo Island Council has expressed deep concern over the complete suspension of the Dh. Kudahuvadhoo harbor expansion project. The project, which had been progressing at a rapid pace leading up to the Local Council Elections, has now come to a total standstill with no further work being carried out.
In an interview with RaajjeTV, the President of the Dhaalu Kudahuvadhoo Island Council, Mohamed Saleem, stated that the harbor expansion project was a pledge made by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu during his visit to the island in 2024. Mohamed Saleem further noted that the project's physical works commenced on May 25, 2026, coinciding with the Local Council Elections.
Mohamed Saleem stated that although the project progressed at a rapid pace leading up to the local council elections, work has significantly slowed down since the conclusion of the polls.
In practical terms, the majority of the harbor construction has been completed for nearly five months now. However, over the past four months, work has slowed significantly, with only minor tasks being carried out intermittently. This project involves the development of two sections for the harbor extension. While one side is currently finished, we have been informed that the second phase of the extension is also slated for construction.Mohamed Saleem
Mohamed Saleem stated that once the new harbor is completed, the T-jetty currently used for unloading goods in Kudahuvadhoo is scheduled to be relocated there. However, he noted that the T-jetty area at the new harbor measures only 60 feet, leading to complaints from residents. He added that these concerns were also raised during the most recent community meeting.
Local residents have informed me that the current T-jetty is excessively narrow. They noted that when cargo is unloaded on the jetty, it becomes extremely difficult to operate or maneuver large vehicles. The T-jetty currently in use measures 80 feet in width, which means it falls 20 feet short of the required specifications.Mohamed Saleem
Mohamed Saleem stated that the project to expand the harbor in Dh. Kudahuvadhoo has been officially awarded to MTCC.
Furthermore, Mohamed Saleem stated that MTCC attributed the project delays to difficulties in procuring certain materials required for the harbor construction. He expressed concern over the lack of a clear timeline, noting that MTCC has not shared a completion date and the council remains uninformed as to when the project will be finished.
