To prevent further waste of state resources, the council is urging the government to repurpose the facility, suggesting it be used to house the island's existing children's shelter or converted into an administrative office for government agencies.

The President of the Kudahuvadhoo Council, Mohamed Saleem, has stated that the juvenile residential center constructed by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's administration in Dhaalu Kudahuvadhoo has been left abandoned and is falling into disrepair.
Expressing his concern, Dhaalu Kudahuvadhoo Council President Mohamed Saleem stated in an interview with RaajjeTV that the Juvenile Residential Center was completed during former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s administration. He noted that the facility was constructed at a cost of MVR 21 million.
This facility is designed for the rehabilitation and upbringing of children rescued from criminal environments. The construction of the building was completed just as the administration of Ibrahim Mohamed Solih concluded its term.Mohamed Saleem
However, Mohamed Saleem expressed concern over President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s administration’s failure to utilize the building to date. He noted that allowing such a costly and meticulously completed facility to fall into disrepair constitutes a significant waste of public resources.
Mohamed Saleem stated that the building constructed for the Juvenile Residential Center has deteriorated to the point of requiring significant reinvestment, noting issues such as severe water leakage and collapsed ceilings. He further noted that the Ministry of Home Affairs had assigned the Kudahuvadhoo Police Station to oversee the maintenance of the facility.
Mohamed Saleem stated that while a children's shelter is currently operating in another building in Kudahuvadhoo, the facility is too small to adequately accommodate the children. Consequently, he called for the children to be relocated to the newly constructed Juvenile Residential Center. Alternatively, he suggested that another government office in Kudahuvadhoo be moved to the new building to free up more suitable space.
