Former President of MDP, Abdulla Shahid, has stated that the situation in Addu reflects a decline in development and the extent to which citizens have been marginalized due to the government's inconsistent policies.
During his ongoing visit to Addu City, Shahid stated that the public desires development, prosperity, and a transparent system that addresses their needs. He further emphasized that the people do not wish to see a return to a culture of begging for basic services.
Shahid highlighted the ongoing difficulties citizens face in accessing essential medicines and expressed concern over President Muizzu's administration's failure to provide a solution to the shortage.
An elderly gentleman I met today, who has been on essential heart medication for 25 years, shared a distressing grievance: his medication is no longer available anywhere in the Maldives. He noted that there is currently no way to source it locally, mentioning that the last time he managed to find a supply was from a pharmacy in Ha. Dhiddhoo. He is now forced to personally arrange for the medicine to be brought in from India, as government pharmacies have informed him that the drug is no longer in stock.Abdulla Shahid
Shahid stated that the current administration must take full responsibility for the hardships facing the public and the rising cost of living. He further asserted that these issues are clear evidence that the government has failed.
