Heroes who reformed and transformed everything the Maldivian people desired are within the MDP: Shahid

Abdulla Shahid has stated that the nation currently needs heroes capable of reforming and transforming the country according to the people's wishes, asserting that such leaders are found within the MDP.

Speaking at a rally held in Addu City on Friday night, former Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid stated that the Maldives is a nation of intelligent and discerning citizens. He further emphasized that what the Maldivian people lack is an honest government—one that views itself as a servant of the people and fulfills its campaign pledges. Shahid asserted that the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) is the only political force capable of restoring such a government to the country.

Shahid stated that the champions who have addressed every reform sought by the Maldivian people are within the MDP, and that only these individuals possess the capability to bring about the changes the nation requires.

The Maldives requires a government that understands the nation's needs, monitors its progress, and possesses both the vision and the vigor to shape its future. This is a task that can only be undertaken by those who are well-versed in global affairs. We must transform the living conditions of our citizens, and once again, only the MDP can deliver this change. This mission can only be accomplished by the champions who have historically reformed and transformed the country according to the people's aspirations. Those champions are within the MDP.

Shahid stated that, in modern parlance, the Maldives' developmental trajectory is currently "lost in limbo," and the nation is facing dark economic times. He further warned that the downfall of any nation lacking self-sufficiency is inevitable and bitter, emphasizing the urgent need to change the current course.

Furthermore, Shahid stated that while the entire world has recognized the strategic importance of these islands, the current incompetent administration remains the only entity unable to acknowledge this reality.

Shahid stated that whether viewed through the lens of development or from a national perspective, Addu City serves as the benchmark for shaping the vision of the country's future progress. He further noted that any meaningful transformation for the Maldives—one that brings financial prosperity to the people and peace of mind—must originate from and be centered around the strategic vision for Addu City.

However, Shahid stated that the current administration refuses to accept these global realities, adding that the government’s actions serve no purpose other than to harass and burden the public.

Theft is occurring openly and systematically. Look at what is happening today. More than 80 young people from Addu City have been dismissed from their jobs. Who is responsible for this, and for what reason? When it comes to Addu City and the islands across this country, people are being terminated and discarded. This is why I say this government is defined by nothing but corruption; it is theft through and through. We will change this government’s mindset and actions. We will defeat them.
