Maziya Sports and Recreation has advanced closer to booking a place in the Cup Winners’ Cup final after securing a tough win over Buru Sports Club in their second game of the competition.
Played at Galolhu National Stadium on Thursday afternoon, the fixture concluded with Maziya winning 2–1.
Even though Buru struck first, Maziya showed toughness by recovering from a deficit to score twice and claim the win.
Buru opened the scoring during first-half stoppage time when Areen Abdullah Ibrahim converted to put his team ahead. Maziya answered swiftly early in the second half, leveling the contest three minutes after play resumed via an Ibrahim Aisam strike. Maziya then seized total control five minutes after that, with international player Benjamin Thomas Koukou netting the decisive goal.
The triumph keeps Maziya atop the table with six points, adding to their earlier victory over Odi Sports Club. Maziya will complete their league phase against New Radiant Sports Club. If New Radiant either beats Odi in Thursday night's clash or plays to a draw, both New Radiant and Maziya will guarantee their berths in the championship final.
