Today we are witnessing consequences citizens face under a cruel and malicious leader: MP Mauroof

The Member of Parliament for the Kendhoo constituency, Mauroof Zakir, has stated that the current situation in the Maldives reflects the consequences citizens face under a leader who lacks sincerity and harbors malicious intent.

Speaking on a special program aired by RaajjeTV to mark Independence Day, Mauroof stated that no employee in the Maldives currently enjoys job security or professional independence. Mauroof highlighted that this climate of fear is particularly prevalent among those employed at state-owned enterprises.

In this regard, Mauroof stated that the job security and independence of employees, as well as their right to provide for their families, currently rest in the hands of the President. He noted that employees face dismissal for expressing views on social media that oppose the President or the ruling party. Mauroof further emphasized that such actions ultimately marginalize Maldivian citizens and their families.

Stating that this is not how a person of integrity fulfills their entrusted responsibilities, Mauroof remarked that the country is currently heading toward a dire situation. He further asserted that President Muizzu is not the provider of one's livelihood and that those dismissed from their jobs would not go pleading at the President's feet.

This is not how a person of integrity fulfills the responsibilities entrusted to them. We are descending into a truly desperate situation. Sustenance is provided only by Almighty Allah. President Muizzu must not harbor the illusion that everyone dismissed from state companies will be reduced to poverty, left stranded on the streets, and forced to crawl to his feet to beg. That will not happen.

Mauroof Zakir

Speaking during the program, Mauroof stated that there is no professional freedom in the Maldives. He further noted that the country cannot be considered a nation that grants employment based on merit. Mauroof also remarked that a culture of building a "lazy generation"—where individuals receive salaries without performing any actual work—has taken hold in the Maldives today. He emphasized that this is a grave issue, describing it as the destruction of the nation's future.

Referring to the government's ongoing efforts to "right-size" state-owned enterprises, Mauroof stated that these positions were originally created and filled by the government of its own accord. He noted that the administration itself was responsible for distributing jobs beyond the operational capacity of these companies, adding that this is an issue the opposition MDP has consistently highlighted in the past.

The government has begun dismissing numerous individuals affiliated with the opposition party from their positions. Furthermore, several employees who have voiced criticism of government policies are also being terminated. These actions have triggered widespread public backlash and growing resentment toward the administration.
