The country’s situation is deteriorating due to President Muizzu’s "extreme animosity": Mauroof
Kendu Constituency MP Mauroof Zakir has asserted that President Muizzu’s rigid policies and impulsive decision-making are destabilizing the nation’s systemic foundations. Highlighting the recent hike in tobacco duties as a primary example, Zakir noted that these changes have inadvertently fueled a thriving black market for tobacco products. He further alleged that such measures lack long-term strategic planning and appear to be driven by personal bias and reactionary motives rather than sound governance.

The breakdown of well-established systems and the deteriorating state of the nation are a direct result of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s "fierce temper," according to Mauroof Zakir, the Member of Parliament for the Kendhoo constituency.
Mauroof He made these remarks while speaking on RaajjeTV's "TV Talk" program.

Referring specifically to the government's anti-tobacco initiatives, Mauroof stated that the government itself is directly responsible for the creation of a tobacco black market in the Maldives.
The country's once-functional systems have deteriorated due to the President's "unbridled rage." In reality, the nation is being ruined by this volatile temperament. Furthermore, it was the government that created a black market for tobacco in the Maldives, and this illicit trade has only expanded as a direct result of the government's recent policy changes.Mauroof Zakir, Member of Parliament for the Kendhoo constituency.
Mauroof noted that the black market has expanded further following the government's decision to increase duties on tobacco products and implement various other regulatory changes.
He stated that even if the government decides to reverse the cigarette price hike now, it will not be possible to eliminate the newly formed black market. Furthermore, he warned that the situation is expected to deteriorate even further in the future.
Furthermore, Mauroof stated that the government's current decisions will lead to an increase in the number of smokers rather than a decrease. He alleged that the administration's policies are not built upon a long-term strategic plan.
The member further emphasized that changes to the country's economic and social systems must be based on comprehensive research. However, he noted that current observations suggest decisions are being driven by personal bias and impulsive reactions.
