The Member of Parliament for the Kendhoo constituency, Mauroof Zakir, has stated that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s administration is capable of resorting to any measure necessary in its pursuit of generating state revenue.

Speaking on a RaajjeTV talk show, Mauroof stated that the government reduced the price of tobacco products solely to generate revenue, suggesting that the current administration is willing to take any measure necessary to increase its income. Mauroof made these remarks while addressing First Lady Sajidha Mohamed’s recent call for citizens to wage to a personal "Jihad" to free themselves from tobacco addiction.

Tobacco prices have been lowered for the sake of revenue, yet a "jihad" is purportedly being waged against tobacco. The danger here is that any measure, regardless of its consequences, may be taken simply to generate income.

Mauroof stated that the President has been spreading lies in "broad daylight." The member further noted that when unable to escape the consequences of those falsehoods, the President simply claims to have had a change of heart and attempts to shift his stance.

They are blatantly lying in broad daylight, and when they can no longer escape the consequences of those lies, they claim to have had a change of heart and corrected their course. They now assert that these changes were made only because the public demanded them.

Furthermore, Mauroof stated that President Muizzu lacks any sincerity in his rhetoric and cautioned that the President must reconsider his approach rather than acting solely on his own whims.

President Muizzu is a "cunning fox," and there is no one left who respects him: Rasheed

Former MP Ibrahim Rasheed has accused the current administration of gross negligence in maintaining the Maldives' historical sites and cultural heritage. Criticizing the government's claim that the restoration of the Malé Friday Mosque's minaret is stalled due to a lack of high-quality lime, Rasheed dismissed the explanation as an unacceptable excuse while highlighting the deteriorating state of other historical landmarks such as the Kalhuohfummi vessel. He further alleged that despite President Dr. Muizzu’s rhetoric on nationalism, the administration lacks a genuine commitment to the practical preservation of the nation's heritage.

MP Shujau declares all is well while Maldivians struggle to buy medicine

MP Shujau and other government officials are facing criticism for claiming that essential goods and U.S. Dollars are easily accessible despite widespread public reports of shortages. While political elites maintain a positive narrative, the Managing Director of Aasandha and President Muizzu have both acknowledged significant issues with medicine procurement. This disconnect from the daily struggles of citizens contributed to a recent referendum defeat for the administration.
