MDP assumes power with intention of providing good governance for people, whereas opposition seeks office solely to engage in corruption: Mauroof
MP Mauroof stated that the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) consistently assumes power at times when the nation's systems are in a state of collapse, noting that the previous administration successfully executed numerous development projects despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. He further alleged that the current government's projects are structured to facilitate corruption, asserting that the public must now recognize that changing a government solely out of animosity toward those in power does not result in positive progress for the country.

Mauroof Zakir, the Member of Parliament for the Kendhoo constituency, has stated that while the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) assumes power with the noble intention of providing good governance to the citizens, the opposition seeks office solely for the purpose of corruption.
Speaking on RaajjeTV’s "TV Talk" program, MP Mauroof stated that since the ratification of the new Constitution, the Maldives has been governed either by the MDP or its opposing factions.
Mauroof stated that the MDP assumed power in 2008 and 2018 to advance the nation, citing the hardships endured by the people during former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom’s long tenure and the country’s developmental stagnation. Furthermore, MP Mauroof emphasized that the party’s objective was to guarantee fundamental human rights for all citizens.
However, he stated that every time the MDP assumes power, they find that previous administrations have completely dismantled the country's systemic framework.
Reflecting on the current situation, Member Mauroof stated that the country’s entire financial system has collapsed, and the authority of key institutions such as the Bank of Maldives (BML), the judiciary, and even the Constitution has been undermined. He further noted that despite the previous MDP administration navigating the COVID-19 pandemic for two and a half years, it successfully implemented numerous projects across the Maldives under a comprehensive national development plan.
The Constitution has been dismantled. Once we return to power, our first priority must be to rectify this. Only after that can we begin our work to serve the people. Unfortunately, during our last term, we faced a significant setback where two and a half years were lost to the COVID-19 pandemic. Look at the facts! The Maldivian people must reflect on the rhetoric being spread. Replacing a leader or an administration out of mere anger or resentment does not constitute positive change. If you set aside the two and a half years lost to COVID-19 and objectively consider the achievements of the previous MDP administration, the progress is evident. We were developing the entire country based on a comprehensive and structured plan.Mauroof Zakir
MP Mauroof further stated that the projects currently being undertaken by the administration are designed in a manner that facilitates theft and corruption.
He alleged that the reclamation of Fushidhiggaru Lagoon and the various agreements being signed with purported major investors are prime examples of this. MP Mauroof characterized the introduction of "Sheikhs" to establish a financial center in Hulhumale and the signing of an agreement for a floating airport in GDh. Thinadhoo as mere illusions being presented to the public.
Furthermore, while discussing the Malé road redevelopment project, MP Mauroof noted that despite claims that a "green signal" had been received for the work prior to the presidential election, no practical progress has been seen to date. He added that such delays are damaging the reputation of partner nations like China. Consequently, MP Mauroof stated that the public must now recognize that changing a government solely out of anger toward those in power does not result in positive change.
