Although President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu declared upon taking his oath of office that all influence over the judiciary had been eliminated effective immediately, he has now stated—two years and nine months later—that true judicial independence can only be achieved by 2029.
The President made these remarks while speaking at the official ceremony held to mark Independence Day. He announced that the agreement to construct the Superior Court Complex has been signed, with the project expected to be completed by 2029. The President further stated that the completion of this project would grant the judiciary true independence from external influence.
