MTCC has decided to begin repair work on the newly paved sections of Ameenee Magu next week following recent damage. The project will involve resurfacing the asphalt from the Food Court area to Dhiragu and implementing structural changes to the pavements at the bus stops.

Authorities have decided to begin repair work on Ameenee Magu—one of Malé City's busiest thoroughfares—following the deterioration of asphalt laid under this administration's "Muizzu Speed" initiative.

The Ameenee Magu redevelopment project was initiated by the previous MDP administration at a cost of MVR 84.4 million, with the contract awarded to the Road Development Corporation (RDC). However, by the end of the MDP government's term, asphalt paving had been completed for only 90 percent of the road. At that time, the paving work had been fully finalized up to the area where the former Ministry of Housing was located.

The previous MDP administration has faced heavy criticism over this issue, while the current government utilized 'Muizzu Speed' to complete the asphalt paving from the Food Court area to the intersection of Boduthakurufaanu Magu near the Dhiraagu Headquarters. Technical experts state that the deterioration of certain paved sections of Ameenee Magu was caused by opening the road to public traffic before the asphalt had sufficiently cured.

Furthermore, because the road was reopened before the asphalt had fully cured, sections of the surface have buckled, posing significant safety risks to commuters.

The government has officially commissioned the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) to undertake the repair and restoration of damaged sections of Ameenee Magu.

The Ministry of Housing awarded the project to the company on June 15.

As part of the Ameenee Magu redevelopment project, plans are underway to strip the existing asphalt layer and resurface the road, alongside structural modifications to the pavement designs at bus stop locations. The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has confirmed that all scheduled works are set to commence within the coming week.

The government has come under intense public scrutiny following the need for urgent repairs on a section of Ameenee Magu that was paved only recently. Concerns are mounting as the asphalt has begun to buckle, posing a significant safety hazard to the public, yet authorities continue to delay the commencement of necessary restoration work.
