City Council requests MTCC to establish bus stops in Hulhumalé Phase 2

The Male' City Council has requested the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) to establish bus stops in the area surrounding the newly developed Amaan Dhoadhi and Amaan Udhares flats in Hulhumalé Phase II.

In a letter addressed to MTCC Managing Director Ahmed Saudi, Male' City Mayor Adam Azim highlighted the significant hardships faced by residents of the flats located on Reethigas Magu and Fithuroonu Magu in Hulhumalé Phase II due to the lack of a convenient transportation system. The Mayor expressed particular concern for the elderly, school children, and office workers, who are forced to walk long distances in extreme heat and heavy rain to reach the nearest bus stops.

In a letter addressed to the Managing Director of MTCC, the Mayor highlighted that the population of Hulhumalé Phase II has grown significantly over the past few years, leading to a substantial increase in demand for public transportation. The Mayor emphasized that this matter directly concerns the welfare of residents living in the Amaan Dhoadhi and Amaan Udhares flats. Therefore, he stressed that the establishment of bus stops in these areas is an urgent necessity that must be addressed as soon as possible.

The proposal, submitted by North Hulhumalé constituency Councilor Fathimath Zahiyya, was passed unanimously by all members present at the City Council meeting. Following the decision, the Council has resolved to instruct MTCC to commence RTL bus services in the area within the coming month.

Residents of Hulhumalé Phase II, particularly those living in the newly populated Amaan Dhoadhi and Amaan Udhares flats, are expressing growing concern over the lack of bus stops in the area.
