MTCC has clarified that recurring billing issues with RTL services are due to ongoing server maintenance at the Bank of Maldives (BML), noting that customers can track their trip details using the provided reference numbers. Furthermore, the company explained that the 30-day processing period for refunds on canceled trips is necessitated by the extensive administrative procedures required to complete the transactions.

The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has clarified that the recurring notifications received by passengers for multiple charges on a single trip when using cards for RTL services are due to a technical issue arising from Bank of Maldives (BML) server maintenance.
A growing number of commuters have taken to social media to voice their frustrations over recurring billing errors on the Malé-Villimalé ferry service. Passengers reported that after using bank cards to pay the MVR 3.50 fare, they received multiple notifications for repeated deductions throughout the day, with several users sharing videos as evidence of the glitch. According to some commuters, they received alerts for as many as ten separate transactions for a single journey. In some instances, the total amount deducted from their accounts reportedly reached nearly MVR 100.
When contacted by RaajjeTV’s "Fashaairu" program regarding the matter, MTCC confirmed that they have received numerous similar complaints over the past three days. The company further noted that an official notice addressing the issue has been published across its social media platforms.
MTCC stated that the issue was caused by ongoing maintenance work on the Bank of Maldives (BML) servers used for RTL's payment collection.
MTCC has shared an official notice on its social media platforms regarding an issue with the RTL payment collection system. This disruption is due to ongoing maintenance work on Bank of Maldives (BML) servers. As a result, customers have been receiving notifications for previous transactions, making it appear as though funds are being deducted again. This typically occurs when the bank processes and clears payments that were previously on hold. Customers will receive a specific reference number from BML for these transactions. We have provided a public link where customers can enter this reference number to verify the exact date and details of the trip associated with the charge. We advise customers to cross-check whether the payment was already deducted on the day of travel and to confirm with BML if a double deduction has actually occurred. Generally, these are not duplicate charges, but rather the final processing of a single previous transaction.MTCC
MTCC noted that double charges are generally not expected to occur. The company has now provided a public link where customers can use the reference number sent by BML to verify the specific date of their travel and review the transaction details, including the exact amount deducted.
Furthermore, addressing public complaints regarding the lengthy process for receiving refunds after RTL ferry cancellations, the company stated that its policy stipulates a 30-day period for processing refunds. The company explained that this timeframe is necessary due to the extensive administrative procedures involved. It further noted that there is currently no mechanism to expedite this process.
