MDP urges EC to work towards maintaining public trust

The Elections Commission has held a consultative meeting with the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) as part of a series of planned discussions aimed at strengthening the operations of political parties and enhancing the relationship between the Commission and political organizations.
The meeting, held on Tuesday at the Elections Commission headquarters, was led by MDP Chairperson Mohamed Nasheed and the party's President, Abdulla Shahid.
Furthermore, senior officials of the MDP and members of the party's legal team also participated in the meeting.

During the meeting, the MDP urged the Elections Commission to conduct its affairs in a manner that maintains and strengthens public confidence, rather than undermining it. The party specifically emphasized the importance of upholding transparency and fairness when making decisions regarding electoral matters and political parties.
Furthermore, the MDP shared various concerns it faces as a political party with the members of the Commission.

This meeting is part of a series of discussions initiated by the Elections Commission to strengthen ties with registered political parties in the Maldives. According to the Elections Commission, the primary objective of these meetings is to understand the challenges faced by political parties and to enhance communication between the Commission and the parties. Furthermore, the Commission has provided assurances that it will work towards addressing the concerns raised by the parties.
