MDP elects council representatives for LGA Board
Ali Zaafir, President of the N. Manadhoo Council, and Maryam Neena, President of the L. Gan Women's Development Committee, have secured the opportunity to contest for the Local Government Authority (LGA) board after winning their respective internal elections. Meanwhile, Kulhudhuffushi City Mayor Mohamed Athif has also secured the MDP nomination for the LGA board automatically, as he was the sole candidate to apply from the city council category.

The main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has elected its representatives to contest for seats on the Local Government Authority (LGA) board, representing local councilors and presidents of Women's Development Committees (WDC).
The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has selected its candidates to contest the upcoming Local Government Authority (LGA) board election following an internal primary.
The primary election to select a councilor to contest for a seat on the Local Government Authority (LGA) board featured four candidates: Ali Zafir, President of the N. Manadhoo Council; Hassan Rashaad, President of the R. Rasgetheemu Council; Ahmed Afrah, President of the B. Thulhaadhoo Council; and Afsal Jaufar, President of the L. Gan Council.
Furthermore, five candidates contested the primary held to elect a representative of the Women's Development Committees (WDC) to the Local Government Authority (LGA) board. The candidates included Maryam Neena, President of the L. Gan WDC; Fathimath Azeela, President of the R. Dhuvaafaru WDC; Maryam Shiuna, President of the Fuvahmulah City WDC; Aishath Reesha, President of the Malé City WDC; and Suadha Hassan Didi, President of the GA. Kondey WDC.

Kulhudhuffushi City Mayor Mohamed Athif has secured the MDP nomination for the Local Government Authority (LGA) board without a contest. As the sole mayoral candidate from the three city councils to apply for the party's internal election, he automatically won the opportunity to represent the party on the board.
The call for nominations for candidates contesting for the Local Government Authority (LGA) board was opened on Tuesday, July 14. The deadline for submitting applications to the board expired this past Thursday.
