Ahmed Jamaal, President of the Mulah Island Council, has stated that PNC parliamentarians are characterizing councilors as unproductive in a deliberate attempt to mislead the public. He further noted that the actual contributions and performance of the members within the People's Majlis remain questionable.
Speaking on RaajjeTV's "Fashaairu" morning talk show, Council President Jamaal launched a scathing critique of the People's National Congress (PNC) members of Parliament. He asserted that during the current term, these representatives have failed to undertake any meaningful work that addresses the needs of the public or serves the best interests of the people.
He stated that bills are constantly being submitted to Parliament to raise the price of a commodity one day, only to lower it the next. He further noted that there is no sincerity in any of their actions and that the public has lost all confidence in them.
Jamaal stated that, as a result, PNC members of parliament are attempting to portray councilors as unproductive. He noted that during the debate regarding salary increases for councilors, members sought to mislead the public by characterizing councils as redundant institutions and councilors as idle.
However, Jamaal noted that councils are hardworking institutions, highlighting that they are the only entities that carry out the functions of all government ministries under one roof.
I would like to challenge those critics to spend just one week at these councils to witness the work being done firsthand. In Male’, the Ministry of Home Affairs handles only home affairs, and the Ministry of Environment manages only environmental issues. However, what we have observed is that island councils function as hubs where the work of every government ministry is carried out under a single roof.Ahmed Jamaal, President of the Mulah Island Council
Jamaal stated that the work being carried out by members of the People’s Majlis has come under scrutiny. He noted that as representatives of the people, they must prioritize initiatives that directly benefit and serve the interests of the public.
