Government considers relocating Rakeedhoo residents to another island: Minister Muththalib
The Housing Minister has announced that the government is considering relocating the residents of V. Rakeedhoo to another island as part of its population consolidation policy. The Minister emphasized that such a move would only proceed with the full consent of all residents, noting that discussions are currently ongoing as some members of the community remain reluctant to relocate.

Minister of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development Dr. Abdulla Muththalib has stated that under the government's population consolidation policy, the administration intends to relocate the residents of V. Rakeedhoo to another island.
During Monday's parliamentary sitting, the Minister stated that some residents of Rakeedhoo are unwilling to relocate to another island. The Minister made these remarks in response to a question posed by the Member of Parliament for the Keyodhoo constituency, Mohamed Niushad.
The government has dispatched a team to conduct a survey for the allocation of land plots to the residents of Rakheedhoo. However, the government's official policy remains that any relocation must be carried out with the unanimous consent of all members of the community.

Minister Muththalib stated that discussions regarding the matter are currently ongoing. He further noted that the process of relocating the residents of Rakeedhoo to another island would commence immediately, provided the island's community reaches a consensus on the move.
Under the current administration's population consolidation policy, the residents of HDh. Hirimaradhoo have been relocated to Hanimaadhoo within the same atoll, leading to the official dissolution of the Hirimaradhoo Island Council on May 18, 2026.
The President of Hanimaadhoo Island Council, Ali Ibrahim, has stated that the practical implementation of the housing project for Hirimaradhoo residents remains deeply unclear, despite the President's earlier pledge to complete the construction and hand over the keys within 18 months.
