Holes dug for projects by this administration have now become breeding grounds for mosquitoes: Waheed
Former Member of Parliament Abdulla Waheed stated that the President's decision to avoid island visits during election periods stems from a desire to evade public grievances regarding stalled development projects. Waheed noted that projects initiated with much fanfare during previous elections have failed to progress, asserting that the current administration's track record on delivering these promised initiatives remains at zero.

Former Member of Parliament for the Dhidhdhoo constituency, Abdulla Waheed, has claimed that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s decision to refrain from visiting islands during election periods is due to the lack of progress on projects initiated just before the elections. Waheed noted that the foundation pits dug for these projects have now become stagnant pools where mosquitoes are breeding.
Speaking on RaajjeTV’s "Fala Surukhee" program, Waheed stated that despite President Muizzu’s repeated assertions that he would not travel to the islands ahead of elections, the real reason for his absence is the complete standstill of projects initiated specifically for the election period.
He stated that although various projects were announced across different islands and foundation stones were laid using state resources at the time, this administration lacks any plan or framework to carry those projects forward.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has frequently stated that he would not travel to the islands specifically for election campaigning. However, it is arguably impossible to make such campaign trips when the projects for which foundations were laid ahead of the elections are failing to progress.Abdulla Waheed, the former Member of Parliament for the Dhidhdhoo constituency.
Highlighting the current state of island development projects, Waheed stated that trenches dug in several islands ahead of the elections have now become stagnant breeding grounds for mosquitoes. He further noted that survey stakes driven into the ground in some islands have completely decayed, adding that the whereabouts of materials transported to these project sites remain unknown.
Furthermore, Waheed stated that the outcome of all projects initiated by this administration currently stands at zero. He added that since the work on projects launched just ahead of the elections has seen no progress at all, the President would have nothing of substance to say to the people during his visits to the islands.
Waheed further stated that the President’s claim that he would not travel during the election period is merely an excuse to avoid facing public grievances over stalled projects. He noted that if development projects were progressing as planned, there would be no reason to avoid visiting the islands, even during an election cycle.
