The Maldives Meteorological Service has stated that there is currently no scientifically proven method to predict earthquakes in advance, assuring the public that the agency will continue to provide timely updates regarding any potential impacts on the Maldives.
Social media platforms and various online pages have been reporting that a magnitude 5.2 earthquake could strike the region including the Maldives in the coming days. In response to these reports, the Maldives Meteorological Service has issued a statement to clarify the situation.
In the statement, the agency noted that while scientists can identify regions prone to earthquakes over the long term, there are currently no scientific methods available to predict the exact time, date, or specific location of an impending earthquake.
The Maldives Meteorological Service (MET) has stated that it is continuously monitoring all seismic activity. The agency further assured that should an earthquake occur with the potential to impact the Maldives, information will be shared with the public without delay.
