MNU: Students will not be evicted from the hostel during exams, nor will they be asked to vacate the premises
The Maldives National University (MNU) has refuted reports claiming that students are being ordered to vacate the Majeeduddeen Hostel during their examination period. The university clarified that hostel placements are allocated on an academic year basis, noting that priority is given to new students, while remaining slots are awarded to other applicants through a lottery system.

The Maldives National University (MNU) has stated that students will not be evicted from the hostels during the examination period, nor will they be ordered to vacate the premises.
The Maldives National University (MNU) issued this clarification following reports that students were being ordered to vacate the Majdhudhdheen Hostel in Male' during their examination period.
When contacted by RaajjeTV’s "Fashaairu" program regarding the matter, an official from the Maldives National University (MNU) stated that they would not order the premises to be vacated during the students' examination period and emphasized that all actions are being taken in accordance with established procedures.
Noting the high volume of applications for the hostel, an official stated that accommodation is provided for a one-year period based on the academic calendar. The official further explained that priority is given to new students arriving in Male' to begin their courses. If additional space remains available, a lucky draw is conducted among students finishing their first year before they are required to vacate, allowing them a chance to extend their stay.
We are looking at this on an annual basis. For example, our academic year typically runs from February through November or December. So, it spans the full year. In that context, if a student enrolls and continues through the mid-term break, they remain part of the process. If a student who newly enrolled in the first semester intends to continue, we will conduct the draw before they complete their term. Today, we will hold the draw for those students who are continuing into this semester. Any student currently enrolled who is continuing their studies will be included in today's draw.An employee of the Maldives National University (MNU)
Priority for accommodation at the Maldives National University (MNU) hostels will be given to full-time students who are not residents of the island where the hostel is located. To qualify, students must be enrolled in face-to-face courses and maintain a full academic load at the university. Local residents will only be considered for placement if additional space remains available after all eligible non-resident students have been accommodated.
Half of the total capacity of the dormitory is reserved for newly enrolled university students. While these students are selected through a lottery system, the remaining 50 percent of slots are allocated to full-time students currently in their second semester.
Under these guidelines, first-year students who apply for the second term will be granted placement without a lucky draw, provided they meet the eligibility criteria. Once placement is secured for full-time first-year students, any remaining spots will be opened to students in other academic years. In such instances, selection will be conducted via a lucky draw.
