Maldivian students have staged protests for the past three days near Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC).

Over two dozen Maldivian students along with nearly 1000 foreign students of University of Science and Technology, have been staging protests as they are facing negligence in registering at the Medical and Dental Council.

Maldives government has officially requested the Bangladesh government to resolve the ongoing foreign student registration issue at a university in Chittagong.

According to one of the student, the 28 students are part of the last three batches, including a total of about 1000 students, at the Institute of Applied Health Sciences, who have not been registered by the BMDC.

Speaking to Raajje MV, the student said that the students of the 25th and 26th batch of the university was not even informed of the situation.

Students from India, Bhutan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh are also part of the affected batches. Some students said the situation is particular difficult for candidates who have to sit for their final MBBS examination which begins on January 23, 2017.

Foreign Ministry in a statement said the issue had come to the attention of the government. According to the statement, the government is working with Bangladesh authorities to seek a speedy solution to the registration issue.

According to media reports, university officials said the problem had arisen because the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council had decided to register only a fixed number of students from each institution after a larger number had already been admitted.
