Government working to hold Maldives Film Awards this September: Heena

In collaboration with the National Centre for the Arts (NCA), efforts are currently underway to assemble a judging panel for the upcoming Maldives Film Awards scheduled for September. Heena noted that the primary objective of reviving the awards, which were last held in 2019, is to ensure that the talented professionals working within the Maldivian film industry receive the recognition and honor they deserve.

Minister of Arts, Culture and Heritage Heena Waleed has announced that efforts are underway to hold the Maldives Film Awards this September to recognize and honor the contributions of professionals in the local film industry.

The Minister made these remarks while responding to a question from a member during Wednesday's sitting of the People's Majlis.

Minister Heena stated that the Maldivian film industry possesses a long and storied history, enriched by numerous veteran and highly skilled professionals. The Minister further noted that there are currently many dedicated artists working with great passion to advance the field and revitalize the industry.

The Maldivian film industry is a long-standing and historic sector, home to numerous distinguished professionals. Many individuals who have dedicated themselves to the industry with immense passion have been instrumental in its development and growth. It is the government's vision to undertake the necessary efforts to ensure these professionals receive the prestigious awards and recognition they rightfully deserve.

Heena noted that while the last Maldives Film Awards took place in 2019, the government is currently working to resume the awards ceremony.

Providing further details on the ongoing preparations, Heena stated that administrative work for the film awards is proceeding at a rapid pace in collaboration with the National Centre for the Arts (NCA). She noted that the process of assembling the judging panel to adjudicate the awards is currently underway.

Heena anticipates that, with the current preparations underway, the film awards can be held this coming September.

Heena stated that the government's primary objective is to recognize the hard work of artists in the film industry and to undertake the necessary efforts to present them with the prestigious awards they deserve.
