This government lacks foresight and only thinks about the immediate future: Ali Hussain
Ali Hussain has strongly criticized the government, asserting that a lack of seriousness in its decision-making has led to repeated policy reversals. Highlighting a recent parliamentary committee decision regarding benefits for former presidents as legally contradictory, he characterized the current Parliament as a subpar institution where members lack independence. Furthermore, he noted that the government's inconsistent actions are causing its popularity to decline among both the general public and its own supporters.

Former Member of Parliament for the Kendhoo constituency and legal expert Ali Hussain has criticized President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s administration, stating that the government lacks foresight in its policy-making and decision-making processes. He remarked that the administration’s vision is limited, focusing only on immediate concerns rather than long-term objectives.
Speaking on Raajje TV’s "Fala Suruhee" program, Ali Hussain stated that the current administration is making decisions without any seriousness, leaving the public in a state of uncertainty. He further noted that the government has frequently reversed its decisions, repeatedly taking "U-turns" on various matters.
The truth is, we are living in a state of total uncertainty. How many decisions has this government made, only to perform a complete U-turn later? This is exactly the point we are making. There is no consistency and a complete lack of seriousness. When they take action, they fail to look beyond the tip of their nose. Whether it is making a statement, taking an action, or formulating a policy, their vision is incredibly shortsighted. Otherwise, this is not how things are typically done; this is simply not the way to govern.Ali Hussain, legal professional and former Member of Parliament for the Kendhoo constituency.
Criticizing the decisions made by the Parliament’s 241 Committee regarding the benefits and privileges of former presidents, Ali Hussain stated that legal protections can only be revoked by amending the law itself. He emphasized that a single committee does not have the authority to alter legislation and that such matters must be addressed by submitting a bill to the full Parliament for deliberation and debate. He further remarked that once President Muizzu’s term concludes, he too will return to being a private citizen, warning that the decisions made today will inevitably impact the President himself in the future.
We are concluding the 241 Committee’s proceedings today by removing this. When it is put that way, we have no choice but to finalize it. There is no other alternative; otherwise, seats will be lost. As it stands, the power to vacate seats and disqualify Members of Parliament has effectively been handed over by the Supreme Court to organizations. Therefore, the political NGOs currently operating in the Maldives will now be the ones removing Members of Parliament. Consequently, a Member of Parliament is left with no other choice.Ali Hussain, legal professional and former Member of Parliament for the Kendhoo constituency.
Speaking on the government's popularity, Ali Hussain stated that the administration's approval ratings are declining daily. He noted that this loss of credibility is occurring not only among the opposition but also among supporters of the ruling People's National Congress (PNC).
Furthermore, Ali Hussain described the current 20th People's Majlis as the "lowest quality" parliament in Maldivian history. He stated that members lack independence and have no choice but to follow the directives of party leaders, fearing they will "lose their seats" if they fail to comply. "Therefore, a functional People's Majlis does not exist today," Ali Hussain concluded.
