Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Mohamed Saeed, has announced that the Male' Taxi Line completed over 6,900 trips within a single week.
During a press conference held at the President's Office on Tuesday, Minister Saeed announced that the taxi line application was launched on the Apple App Store on June 2. He further noted that the application was subsequently made available on Android platforms on June 4.
Furthermore, Minister Saeed stated that Male' taxis completed a total of 6,912 trips during that week. This period spanned from Monday, June 22, to Sunday, June 28.
The Minister noted that the majority of these trips were conducted within Male', totaling 3,569 journeys. Highlighting that 528 trips were made in Villimale', the Minister confirmed that the service has now been successfully launched in that district as well.
The Minister stated that 6,112 bookings were made through the web application. Additionally, the Minister noted that 800 bookings were facilitated through the call center.
Furthermore, Minister Saeed stated that this reflects the high demand for the service. The Minister further noted that, on average, it takes five to six minutes to answer calls during peak hours. He also highlighted that during off-peak hours, calls are answered within three to four minutes.
The government has provided numerous deadlines for the commencement of Male’ taxi services. Even when the service finally launched, it was met with significant public concern. The primary grievances involve allegations of major corruption regarding the development of the taxi application, as well as persistent complaints from the public about the difficulty of securing a taxi even after the service became operational.
