Government launches taxi line website and begins charging fares
The government's "Male Taxi Line" has officially commenced its paid service, allowing passengers to book trips via a dedicated website and hotline. However, the launch has been overshadowed by public concern regarding service delays and a previous data leak involving the service's initial mobile application. Despite these challenges, the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) remains optimistic that the newly introduced website will streamline operations and provide a more efficient, reliable experience for commuters.

The government’s newly launched "Male' Taxi Line" has officially introduced its website and commenced fare collection for its services. The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), which operates the service, stated that the new website allows customers to book taxis with ease.
In a post on X on Saturday, MTCC announced that customers can now book trips and complete payments through their website within seconds. In addition to the online platform, the public can also book taxis by calling the hotline at 1655. The company further stated that all trips under this service will be charged according to the official rates set by the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation.
Despite the official launch of Male' Taxi Line services, the public has raised significant concerns regarding the operation. Within the first week of its introduction, many users complained about the service being overwhelmed, noting extreme difficulties in reaching the hotline. Some members of the public reported being kept on hold for over twenty minutes, followed by further lengthy delays while waiting for a vehicle to arrive.
Furthermore, questions have been raised regarding the web application previously introduced by MTCC for this service. The application was taken offline shortly after its launch following concerns shared on social media regarding the potential leakage of personal data provided by the public during registration. However, the government remains hopeful that the launch of the new website today will streamline and strengthen the service.
