Convicted drug trafficker sentenced to life imprisonment
Police concluded the investigation into this narcotics case and forwarded it to the Prosecutor General’s Office for charges in March 2023, noting that the move is part of ongoing efforts to ensure the strictest legal action against drug traffickers.

The Criminal Court has sentenced Ali Ibrahim, 37, of Sunitha House, Sh. Milandhoo, to 25 years in prison and imposed a fine of MVR 100,000 after finding him guilty of trafficking diamorphine.
The verdict was delivered on June 21, 2026.
He was sentenced under Section 105 of Law No. 17/2011 (The Drugs Act).
The case was initially reported to the Maldives Police Service on January 12, 2023. Following the conclusion of the investigation, the matter was forwarded to the Prosecutor General’s Office on March 13, 2023, with a recommendation to file formal charges.
This is the result of ongoing collaborative efforts between the police and relevant institutions to combat drug trafficking. The Maldives Police Service is currently undertaking special measures to ensure that the strictest legal action is taken against those involved in the drug trade.
