Identity of police officer arrested for alleged sexual abuse of his child revealed
Shakeeb Yoosuf, 49, of Chiliyage, L. Fonadhoo, has been arrested under a court order and suspended from the Maldives Police Service following allegations of sexually abusing his 16-year-old daughter. While the Family and Child Protection Department has launched a criminal investigation into the case, the court has remanded the suspect in custody for 30 days. In addition to the criminal proceedings, the Police Professional Standards Command is conducting an internal administrative inquiry into the matter.

The Maldives Police Service has released the identity of a police officer accused of sexually abusing his daughter.
Police have identified the officer as 49-year-old Shakeeb Yoosuf, a native of Chiliyage in Fonadhoo, Laamu Atoll.
The case involving allegations of sexual abuse against a minor by an individual in a position of trust was reported to the police on June 1, 2026. The suspect in this case is a serving officer of the Maldives Police Service.
While the Family and Child Protection Department conducts a criminal investigation into the matter, the police Professional Standards Command is simultaneously reviewing administrative issues involving the officer.
Shakeeb Yoosuf was arrested under a court order on June 7, 2026, in connection with this case. Following his arrest, he was suspended without pay from his position at the Maldives Police Service, effective from that date.
When presented before the court for a remand hearing, the court ordered him to be remanded in custody for a period of 30 days.
The victim in this case is a 16-year-old girl. According to a reliable source, she has disclosed to several people close to her that she was sexually abused by her father.
