Missing police officer found dead underwater during operation
A 33-year-old police officer, Ahmed Asif of Ha. Uligamu, has been found dead underwater during a special police operation. A police officer who went missing during a special operations mission has been found dead underwater following an extensive search.
According to a police media official, the tragic incident occurred during the early hours of Wednesday, June 11, 2026. Authorities immediately launched a search operation in the area after discovering that an officer aboard "Police Launch 57" had gone missing during an ongoing operation. The individual was an officer on active duty aboard the vessel at the time of the incident.
The officer was located underwater during the search operation. Upon discovery, he was immediately transported to the AA. Mathiveri Health Center. However, police cited the health center confirming that he was already deceased at the time of arrival.
During this difficult time, the Maldives Police Service is providing psychological support and other necessary assistance to the family of the deceased officer and his colleagues.

According to reports, the deceased has been identified as 33-year-old Ahmed Asif, a native of Ha. Uligamu. He was a crew member on the vessel.
