According to a police media official, the tragic incident occurred during the early hours of Wednesday, June 11, 2026. Authorities immediately launched a search operation in the area after discovering that an officer aboard "Police Launch 57" had gone missing during an ongoing operation. The individual was an officer on active duty at the time of the incident.
The officer was located underwater during the search operation. Upon discovery, he was immediately transported to the AA. Mathiveri Health Center. However, police cited the health center confirming that he was already deceased at the time of arrival.
The Maldives Police Service is currently conducting a further investigation into the cause of the incident and the specific sequence of events that occurred during the operation.
