Provisional results for Chairperson election released: Nasheed secures victory with a margin of 11,839 votes
Former President Mohamed Nasheed has secured a decisive victory in the MDP chairperson election, defeating Mikaeel Ahmed Naseem by a significant margin of 11,839 votes according to provisional results. According to the provisional results of the election held on Friday, President Nasheed has secured a significant majority of the votes cast.
According to the provisional results of the election, former President Mohamed Nasheed secured a total of 21,301 votes. His opponent, Member of Parliament for Galolhu South constituency Mickail Ahmed Naseem, received 9,462 votes. Consequently, President Nasheed claimed victory with a significant lead of 11,839 votes over Mickail.
While more than 50,000 individuals were eligible to vote in this election, a total of 31,129 people cast their ballots. This represents a significantly high turnout relative to the total number of eligible voters.
According to the election statistics, a total of 30,895 votes were counted as valid. Additionally, 234 ballots were declared invalid for various reasons.
