MDP: All ballot boxes will be dispatched to islands by Thursday
The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has dispatched 80 percent of the ballot boxes to various islands ahead of its chairperson election scheduled for this Friday. The party confirmed that all preparations for the election, which sees former President Mohamed Nasheed competing against Meekail Naseem, will be finalized by Thursday. Voting is set to take place on Friday from 2:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has announced that all ballot boxes for the upcoming chairperson election, scheduled for this Friday, will be dispatched to their respective islands by the end of Thursday.
Ibrahim Muizzu, a member of the MDP Elections Committee overseeing the election process, stated that the dispatch of ballot boxes and voting materials from Male' to the islands is currently underway. He noted that 80 percent of the materials have already been dispatched and confirmed that all ballot boxes will be delivered to the respective islands by the end of Thursday.
Former President Mohamed Nasheed and Member of Parliament for Galolhu South constituency, Meekail Ahmed Naseem, are the two candidates contesting the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) chairperson election scheduled for this coming Friday. As the election fever intensifies, senior party officials have been traveling to various islands across the country to conduct campaign activities.
Voting for the election is scheduled to take place on Friday, June 12, 2026, from 2:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. According to the timeline for the chairperson election, only those registered as party members by April 22 will be eligible to vote.
