The Member of Parliament for South Galolhu, Meekail Ahmed Naseem, who is contesting for the position of MDP Chairperson, has stated that his primary objective is to maintain party unity and solidarity leading up to the 2028 presidential election.
Meekail made these remarks while speaking at a special ceremony held to conclude his "Ithubaaru Campaign."
Meekail stated that under his chairpersonship, he would guarantee a place at the party's forefront for all members, regardless of whether they supported his candidacy. He emphasized that his vision is to maintain the MDP as an inclusive, democratic party, and noted that his primary objective in contesting this election is to achieve that goal.
Reflecting on the observations made during his campaign visits to various islands, Meekail stated that general members are still reeling from the bitter memories of the 2023 presidential election defeat. He described the loss of government due to internal party divisions as an irreparable blow to the nation.
Meekail further asserted that the current administration's actions—including the arrest of journalists, politically motivated dismissals from employment, and the ongoing disruptions to essential healthcare services—are the direct consequences of the divisions within the MDP.
If you wish to transform this party into one where every individual—regardless of their background or lineage—including youth and women, has the opportunity to ascend to the highest leadership positions, then I urge you to cast your vote for me, Mickail Ahmed Naseem, this Friday, June 12th. If you want to demonstrate to the youth of this nation that this party truly offers them a seat at the table, then place your trust in me on June 12th. If you want to ensure that this party provides a level playing field for all presidential hopefuls interested in the primary, where the scales of justice do not tilt in favor of any one individual, then mark your ballot for me. If you refuse to let this be a party where your political future is stifled based on the side you take in an internal election, then I ask for your confidence and your vote.Meekail Ahmed Naseem, Member of Parliament for the South Galolhu constituency.
Meekail further stated his vision for the MDP to be a party where individuals from any background, including youth and women, have the opportunity to ascend to the highest leadership positions. He also pledged to ensure a level playing field for all candidates contesting the upcoming presidential primary, guaranteeing that the party's internal processes remain impartial and unbiased.
Meekail emphasized the need to realign the party's ranks to end the "tyranny" of the Muizzu administration, noting that this can only be achieved through trust in the leadership. Consequently, he urged members to cast their votes for him in the election scheduled for Friday, June 12.
Concluding his remarks, Meekail pledged his commitment to ensuring the MDP remains a party that stays loyal to its very last member. He expressed confidence that, God willing, he would secure a decisive victory in the election and brighten the party's future.
