Nasheed Warns of Dire Consequences if Maldives Fails to Advance
Former President Mohamed Nasheed has asserted that local councils must be granted full ownership of all resources within their jurisdictions to drive national development. Speaking in N. Holhudhoo, Nasheed emphasized that empowering councils is the key to achieving holistic development across the Maldives and doubling the income of its citizens. Former President Mohamed Nasheed has stated that the Maldives is at a crossroads where it must take a significant leap forward, warning that failure to do so would result in the country falling into a deep abyss.
Speaking at the "Bodu Badhalu" campaign event held in N. Holhudhoo on Wednesday, Nasheed stated that the Maldives requires significant transformations, asserting that only the MDP is capable of delivering such changes.
Referring to the current situation in the Maldives, Nasheed stated that while the future remains very bright, the country must take a significant leap forward. He warned that failure to make this leap would result in the nation falling into a deep abyss.
Nasheed stated that worldly realities cannot be changed and that remaining stagnant is not an option. He emphasized that one must move either forward or backward, noting that the power to choose that path lies within their hands.
The future is incredibly bright. We can see a clear opportunity for the Maldives to take a significant leap forward. There is a path for us to ascend rapidly from where we currently stand. However, if we fail to take that leap, we risk falling into a deep abyss. Remaining stagnant is simply not a viable option. We cannot afford to continue with the status quo. If we choose to remain as we are, we will only face decline. This is why we are advocating for a major transformation—because staying where we are is no longer an option.Former President Mohamed Nasheed
Furthermore, Nasheed also spoke regarding the development of the Maldives.
Nasheed stated that in order to develop the Maldives, every resource and jurisdiction within a local council's boundaries must be fully handed over to that island.
The most vital requirement for the development of the Maldives is to grant islands full ownership of their assets. This must encompass everything within the island's jurisdiction—from underground pipes and cables to the land and trees above, and even the air space. Everything within the administrative boundaries of Holhudhoo must belong to Holhudhoo. All activities conducted here must be managed by the local council. Furthermore, the provision of housing must also be a responsibility undertaken by the councils. God willing, we will be able to implement these changes.Former President Mohamed Nasheed
Nasheed stated that the entire Maldives can be developed holistically by fully empowering local councils. He further noted that this approach would also double the income of the citizens.
