Allegations have intensified claiming that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu distributed money to members of the ruling People's National Congress (PNC), amid ongoing efforts to remove Ahmed Nazim from his position as Deputy Speaker of the People's Majlis.
The motion to remove Nazim has now been scheduled for Sunday's parliamentary session.
Information has surfaced indicating that the People’s National Congress (PNC) has initiated efforts to remove Nazim from his position as Deputy Speaker of Parliament, reportedly at the behest of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. Amidst the ongoing collection of signatures for the motion, allegations have emerged suggesting that the President distributed financial incentives to PNC parliamentarians.
Citing several PNC members, Adhadhu has reported that substantial sums of money have been distributed to lawmakers during this period. According to the report, after a two-month hiatus, the monthly payment of MVR 50,000 provided by President Mohamed Muizzu to PNC members of the People’s Majlis has been resumed.
The move to remove Nazim comes amid reports of internal friction within the government and the ruling People's National Congress (PNC). With the matter scheduled for Sunday, it has become a focal point of significant attention within the Parliament.
Reports indicate that the issue of distributing money to Members of Parliament in this manner has previously been submitted to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). However, there is no indication that the ACC has initiated an investigation into the matter to date.
