Sentencing hearing for Shamaan cancelled at the request of the defense
The sentencing hearing for former Controller of Immigration Shamaan Waheed, scheduled for today on charges of extorting money from a foreign national by abusing his official position, has been canceled due to the absence of his legal counsel from the country. While Shamaan faces charges of robbery, money laundering, and official misconduct, his family has alleged that the case is a "frame-up" orchestrated by Home Minister Ihusaan. The trial has now reached its final stage, with the court prepared to deliver a verdict.

The sentencing hearing for former Controller of Immigration Shamaan Waheed, who is accused of abusing his official position to extort money from a foreign national, has been cancelled.
The state has filed three charges against Shamaan. These include robbery, abuse of official position, and money laundering.
The hearings for the case are currently ongoing at the Criminal Court, with the proceedings now having reached the sentencing stage.
Although the sentencing hearing for this case was scheduled for Thursday, it has since been cancelled.
The Criminal Court stated that the hearing scheduled for 13:00 at the court's B2 Section has been cancelled. The cancellation follows a request from Shamaan Waheed’s defense counsel, who is currently abroad.
Shamaan’s family has previously stated that his arrest was a preemptive move to suppress information he intended to share with the public regarding alleged corruption involving Home Minister Ihusaan. The family further alleges that the Minister sought Shamaan’s detention after becoming aware that Shamaan was in possession of a video involving him.
Furthermore, the family accused Ihsan of engaging in numerous acts of corruption in his management of the Home Ministry and oversight of Immigration. They further alleged that Shamaan’s detention was a setup.
