Dismissal of Nazim: Nazim granted 10 minutes to respond; members allotted a single three-minute slot for debate
During its meeting on Wednesday, the Parliament's General Purposes Committee decided to allocate 50 minutes for floor debate within the one-hour timeframe set for the no-confidence motion against Deputy Speaker Nazim.

The Parliament's General Purposes Committee has decided to allocate 50 minutes for the debate on the no-confidence motion against Deputy Speaker Ahmed Nazim, the MP for Dhiggaru constituency. The committee also resolved to grant Nazim 10 minutes to respond to the motion.
Wednesday afternoon's meeting of the General Purpose Committee was chaired by the committee's chairperson and Member of Parliament for the Hulhudhoo constituency, Mohamed Shahid.
During the meeting, Holhudhoo MP Abdulla Sattar Mohamed proposed a total of one hour for the floor debate on the matter, with 50 minutes specifically allocated for the debate itself. He suggested that this time be distributed among the political parties. The MP further noted that while members typically receive five minutes each during a standard four-hour debate, he recommended granting each member a single three-minute opportunity to speak on this issue. Additionally, he proposed allocating 10 minutes for Nazim to provide his response.
The proposal was supported by the Member for Dhuvaafaru constituency, Mohamed Ali. The decision was passed unanimously with the votes of all five members present.
The committee meeting held on Wednesday was attended by MP Abdul Sattar Mohamed (Holhudhoo constituency), MP Ahmed Riyaz (Thimarafushi constituency), MP Abdul Latheef Abdul Rahman (Alifushi constituency), MP Mohamed Ali (Dhuvaafaru constituency), MP Hussain Riza Adam (Maafushi constituency), and MP Ahmed Shakir (Maavah constituency). Among those present, only the members representing the People's National Congress (PNC) participated in the vote.
The Parliament Secretariat confirmed that a resolution to remove Nazim from office was received on the 14th of this month. On the same day, the Secretariat stated that the matter would proceed in accordance with the Constitution and the Parliament's Rules of Procedure.
