Parliament extends its first session
The People's Majlis has voted to extend its current session until May 31 to complete pending legislative work, with 58 members in favor of the motion. Although the session was constitutionally mandated to conclude on May 15, parliamentary regulations grant the house the authority to extend its term to address unfinished business. This decision comes at a critical juncture as the parliament also faces a pending no-confidence motion against its Deputy Speaker.

The Parliament has extended its first session of the year.
During Thursday's sitting, the People's Majlis voted to extend the current session until May 31st to complete several key legislative tasks scheduled for the first term of the year.
In Thursday's sitting, the motion to extend the term was approved with 58 votes in favor out of the 69 members present. 11 members voted against the extension.
According to the Parliament's Standing Orders, the first session of the year runs from February 1st to May 15th. However, the regulations also stipulate that if significant legislative work remains incomplete by the end of the term, the duration of the session may be extended by a parliamentary vote.
Despite numerous recent parliamentary sittings being shortened or canceled for various reasons, the decision to extend the current session comes at a critical juncture, as a no-confidence motion has surfaced against the Deputy Speaker of Parliament and MP for Dhiggaru constituency, Ahmed Nazim.
