Majlis sitting cancelled due to internal strife within PNC, following a directive to prevent Nazim from presiding over the meeting
Wednesday's parliamentary sitting was canceled due to a lack of quorum, a move MP Abdul Rahman claims was a deliberate attempt to prevent Deputy Speaker Ahmed Nazim from presiding amid internal rifts within the ruling People's National Congress (PNC). This disruption occurred shortly after Nazim was reportedly removed from several PNC committees and WhatsApp groups, with government coalition members staging a walkout just moments before the session was scheduled to begin.

Addu Meedhoo MP Abdul Rahman has alleged that Wednesday’s parliamentary sitting was canceled due to internal friction within the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC). She claimed the session was called off to prevent Deputy Speaker and Diggaru MP Ahmed Nazim from presiding over the proceedings.
Wednesday's sitting of the People's Majlis was canceled due to a lack of quorum, despite the chair's initial decision to commence the session at 10:00 a.m.
Sittings of the People's Majlis typically commence at 9:00 a.m. However, during Wednesday's session, the presiding officer, Deputy Speaker and MP for Dhiggaru constituency Ahmed Nazim, announced that the sitting failed to meet quorum at the scheduled time. Despite ringing the quorum bell, the required number of members was not present, leading to the decision to reschedule the start of the session to 10:00 a.m.
However, a quorum had still not been reached by 10:00 a.m. Nazim stated that the decision was made to cancel the sitting after the quorum bell was rung and the required number of members failed to attend. He further announced that the next session is scheduled for Thursday.
Following the cancellation of a sitting in the People’s Majlis, which is currently controlled by the ruling PNC, Addu Meedhoo MP Abdul Rahman shared a video of the chamber on social media, alleging that the session was called off due to internal friction within the party. He claimed that a high-ranking individual within the PNC instructed members to boycott the proceedings to prevent Deputy Speaker Nazim from presiding over the session.
The member stated that, at the time, only they, the MDP members, and Speaker Nazim were present in the chamber. PNC members had staged a walkout shortly before the session was scheduled to begin.
Amidst internal friction within the People’s National Congress (PNC), Abdul Raheem Abdulla stated that party members boycotted a session after being instructed not to hold any meetings under the chairmanship of Nazim. Furthermore, Nazim has also been removed from the ruling party’s official WhatsApp group.
Furthermore, he has been removed from the Parliament's two most influential committees: the Public Accounts Committee and the Committee on Security Services (241 Committee).
