The High Court has accepted an appeal filed by Hussain Fiyaz Moosa regarding a gag order issued in connection with a documentary released by Adhadhu news, following the court's earlier dismissal of a separate appeal against the same order.
The Maldives Journalist Association (MJA) initially appealed the order at the High Court. However, the court dismissed the case on Sunday. The court cited that the appeal could not be accepted because the association was not a party to the original case to which the gag order pertains.
Charges have been filed in this case against Hussain Fiyaz Moosa, the Editor-in-Chief and CEO of the online news outlet Adhadhu, and Editor Hassan Mohamed.
Consequently, Fiyaz, the defendant in this case, filed an appeal with the High Court on Sunday challenging the order. The High Court has since registered and accepted the case for review.
It is noteworthy that the defamation trial against Hussain Fiyaz Moosa, Editor-in-Chief and CEO of Adhadhu, and Editor Hassan Mohamed, regarding the "Aisha" documentary, is being conducted behind closed doors and is not open to the public.
