Mayor Azim calls on government to transfer jurisdiction of Male' City, including Hulhumale', to City Council
Male' City Mayor Adam Azim has urged the government to grant the City Council full jurisdiction over the capital, including Hulhumale'. The Mayor also appealed to the President to expedite land reclamation projects in Gulhifalhu, Giraavarufalhu, and Uthuru Thila Falhu to address the city's housing crisis, while emphasizing the necessity of close cooperation between the government and the council to transform Male' into a more livable city.

Mayor Adam Azim has called for the jurisdiction of Male' City, including Hulhumale', to be officially handed over to the Male' City Council.
Speaking at the official ceremony held for the swearing-in of newly elected Male' City Councilors and the induction of Women's Development Committee members, Mayor Adam Azim made a significant appeal to the government regarding the issue of the city's jurisdiction.
Azim stated that bringing the entire jurisdiction of Male' City, including Hulhumale', under the City Council's authority is a fervent plea of the people to ensure robust development and effective governance of the Greater Male' Region.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Mayor stated that he strongly urges the President to fulfill this legal obligation mandated to the government. Azim highlighted that the Male' City Council can only streamline its administration and effectively provide essential services to the public once it is granted full jurisdiction over the entire area.
I have a significant request for the government regarding the development, modernization, and administration of the Greater Male' Area. It is a profound plea from the residents of this region that the jurisdiction of Greater Male', including Hulhumale', be handed over to the Male' City Council. Highlighting that the housing crisis remains the most significant challenge facing the residents of Male', the Mayor called on the government to expedite ongoing efforts to address the issue. In this regard, he emphasized the urgent need to accelerate land reclamation projects in areas connected to the capital, specifically Gulhifalhu, Giraavarufalhu, and Uthuru Thila Falhu.
Furthermore, Azim stated that everyone’s objective must be to provide a permanent solution to the severe living hardships faced by the residents of Male'. This includes completing the land reclamation of areas connected by the bridge and finalizing the construction of housing flats in those locations as swiftly as possible. The Mayor also noted that since Male' is a city burdened with numerous challenges, councilors must dedicate extensive time and effort to resolve these issues.
I must emphasize that housing remains the most pressing challenge facing the residents of Male'. It is our government's earnest desire to expedite the reclamation of areas connected to the capital to provide a swift solution to this crisis. To this end, we must prioritize the rapid reclamation of Gulhifalhu, Giraavarufalhu, and Uthuru Thila Falhu—areas that will be integrated via the bridge link. Accelerating these reclamation projects and the construction of housing units must be our collective goal to alleviate the severe living constraints currently facing the people of Male'.Mayor Adam Azim
Mayor Azim concluded his remarks by highlighting the vital importance of cooperation between the government and the council to drive the development of Male' City. He further assured that the council remains steadfast in its commitment to undertaking all necessary efforts to transform Male' into a pleasant and livable city, in line with the aspirations of its residents.
