Registration opens for North Hithadhoo constituency by-election
The Elections Commission has opened re-registration for the North Hithadhoo constituency by-election scheduled for June 6, 2026. According to the Commission, applications must be submitted through its online portals by 1:00 PM on the 18th of this month, with polling set to take place from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM on election day.

The Elections Commission has opened re-registration for the 2026 North Hithadhoo constituency by-election, allowing eligible voters to register if they wish to cast their ballots at a location other than their currently registered permanent address.
The Elections Commission (EC) announced on Thursday that the re-registration window for the North Hithadhoo constituency by-election is now open. Voters wishing to cast their ballots at a location other than their currently registered permanent address for the election, scheduled for Saturday, June 6, 2026, may apply for re-registration. The commission stated that applications will be accepted from 10:00 AM on May 14, 2026, until 1:00 PM on Monday, May 18, 2026.
The Elections Commission (EC) stated that during this period, re-registration is required only for those who wish to vote at a location different from where they are currently registered for the 2026 Local Council and Women’s Development Committee elections. The Commission further clarified that individuals currently registered to vote in Male’, Hulhumale’, or Villimale’ for the 2026 elections will be consolidated under a single registration for Male’ for the purpose of this vote.
The Elections Commission (EC) stated that individuals previously registered to vote in resorts, prisons, or any island other than their home island will now be listed under their permanent addresses in the official registry of eligible voters for this election.
Furthermore, the Elections Commission (EC) stated that re-registration requests must be submitted online through the commission's 'Re-registration Portal' (form.elections.gov.mv) or the 'My Portal' (my.elections.gov.mv). The commission further clarified that when submitting forms online via the Re-registration Portal, applicants are required to provide a copy of a valid official identification document and a recent photograph.
The Elections Commission (EC) has stated that applications via the 'My Portal' platform will only be accepted through verified eFaas accounts. The Commission further clarified that individuals applying for re-registration through this method will not be required to submit a photograph or a copy of their national identity card.
Voters can now verify their current registration status via SMS by texting "VR [Space] ID Number" to 1414. Additionally, registration details can be checked through the Elections Commission’s online portal at https://pprvr.elections.gov.mv/statuscheck/vr.
