Applications open for WDC elections in constituencies with insufficient candidates
The Elections Commission has opened applications for vacant seats on the Women’s Development Committees of V. Rakeedhoo and M. Rathmandhoo, with a deadline set for May 18, 2026. The by-elections are scheduled to take place on Saturday, June 20, and interested candidates can submit their applications online via the "My Portal" platform. Official results of the elections are expected to be announced on Monday, June 22.

The elections for the Women's Development Committees (WDC) in V. Rakeedhoo and M. Raiymandhoo have been rescheduled for Saturday, June 20, 2026. This decision follows the initial call for nominations for the April 4, 2026, elections, during which an insufficient number of candidates applied to fill the required seats on the committees for these two islands.
The Elections Commission has announced that applications are now open for vacant positions on the Women's Development Committees (WDC) of V. Rakeedhoo and M. Rathmandhoo. Interested candidates can submit their applications online until 15:00 on Monday, May 18, 2026. Applications can be submitted through the 'My Portal' system between 08:30 and 15:30 daily, except on Fridays. On Fridays, the portal will accept submissions from 15:30 to 18:00.
The vacancies to be filled in these islands include the positions of President and one general member for the V. Rakeedhoo Women's Development Committee (WDC). Additionally, the elections will cover the position of President and two general members for the M. Ratmandhoo Women's Development Committee (WDC).
Voting for the Women's Development Committee elections for V. Rakeedhoo and M. Raiymandhoo is scheduled to take place on Saturday, June 20, 2026, from 08:00 to 16:00. The counting of ballots will commence on the same day, 30 minutes after the polls close. The official results of the election are slated to be announced on Monday, June 22, 2026.
