Unions to Muththalib: "Stop the grandstanding! It was President Muizzu who made the promises, not Muththalib"
The Hiyaa and Fahi Unions have expressed grave concern over the government’s perceived negligence in fulfilling its housing pledges. The organizations criticized the administration for failing to initiate practical work despite a significant portion of its term having passed, calling on the President to honor his commitment to respect the flat allocation lists finalized by the previous government. Furthermore, the unions highlighted growing public anxiety caused by the government’s shifting stances and its failure to disclose details regarding individuals deemed ineligible for housing.

The Hiyaa Union has stated that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu made significant housing pledges to the public, and therefore, Housing Minister Abdulla Muththalib cannot offer excuses for failing to fulfill those promises.
Appearing on RaajjeTV's "Fala Surukhee" program, unions' spokesperson Sabah Rasheed and Fahi Union President Ibrahim Nooraddeen discussed the ongoing national housing crisis.
Speaking during the program, Sabah stated that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu assumed office with significant pledges regarding housing. He noted that among these was the commitment to ensure citizens receive their allocated land plots and flats from their designated locations.
Sabah stated that the government minister has also been addressing this issue in Parliament with a lack of responsibility. Noting the minister's remarks that flats cannot be allocated even if a list exists, he emphasized that it was not the minister who made the pledge to the citizens, but the President himself.
We must question today to what extent these promises have been fulfilled. My message to Muththalib is this: refrain from making grand claims. It was not Muththalib who went to the people with these pledges; it was President Muizzu. He is the one who assured the citizens that he would honor that list of commitments.Sabah Rasheed, Spokesperson for the Unions
Speaking during the program, Ibrahim Nooraddeen stated that no practical progress has been made on housing projects despite the current term being halfway through. He expressed doubt that these goals could be achieved in the remaining time, noting a complete lack of hope regarding the matter.
The project they spoke of is so impossibly vast that, with half the term already over and no housing in sight, we simply do not know where it is even supposed to be built.Ibrahim Nooraddeen, President of Fahi Union
Following a series of shifts in the government's stance regarding the housing flats, the administration has most recently announced its decision to hand over the units in accordance with the list issued by the previous government. Officials clarified that the only individuals to be removed from the original list are those who do not meet the eligibility criteria.
However, despite repeated inquiries regarding the number of applicants disqualified from the flat list to date, no response has been provided as of today.
The government continues to maintain that a new list will not be issued, as they do not intend to make any changes to the existing one, even if some applicants are disqualified for failing to meet the requirements.
