Maldives and Sri Lanka exchange seven MoUs
During President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s state visit to Sri Lanka, official talks were held to further strengthen the 60-year diplomatic relationship between the two nations. The leaders discussed enhancing cooperation across key sectors, including the economy, education, healthcare, and defense. Acknowledging their mutual support in national development, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral ties across various fields in the future.

The Maldives and Sri Lanka have exchanged seven Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) to strengthen bilateral cooperation.
During a ceremony held at the Presidential Secretariat in Colombo, Sri Lanka, the two nations exchanged seven Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) aimed at strengthening bilateral relations. The agreements signed during the ceremony cover cooperation in youth development, archival services, and tourism. Additionally, the MoUs facilitate collaboration in countering extremism, research in the health and defense sectors, and the provision of professional training and expertise for school teachers.
Furthermore, the two countries have held official bilateral talks. These discussions, conducted as part of the President’s ongoing state visit to Sri Lanka, took place today at the Presidential Secretariat in Colombo.
During the discussions, the two leaders highlighted the 60-year history of diplomatic relations between the neighboring nations. The 60th anniversary of formal ties between the two countries will be marked in July 2026. Furthermore, they noted the enduring bonds between the peoples of the Maldives and Sri Lanka, while emphasizing the significant role each nation plays in the other's development.
The two leaders concluded their official talks by expressing a shared commitment to strengthening bilateral relations across several key sectors, including the economy, youth development, education, history and culture, healthcare, defense, and fisheries.
The official talks were attended by cabinet ministers and senior government officials from both countries.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu is currently in Sri Lanka on a state visit, following an invitation from Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
