Asma Rasheed, the Member of Parliament for the Central Maafannu constituency, has been reappointed to the Parliament's Social Affairs Committee and elected as its chairperson.
The appointment of PNC member Asma to the committee has been officially announced during a session of the People’s Majlis.
Asma had previously served as the Chairperson of the Social Affairs Committee in the 20th People’s Majlis. Her prior removal from the post followed a controversy involving a message she sent to constituents, instructing them to notify her if they wished to ask questions during a public forum held by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. Asma had issued an apology regarding the matter at the time.
Asma was reappointed as the chairperson following the resignation of the Member for Maafannu West, Mohamed Mustafa Ibrahim, from the position. After assuming the chair, Asma stated that she had always aspired to serve on the committee.
Asma has been reappointed as the committee's chair, despite the recent emergence of a leaked audio recording in which she allegedly encouraged individuals not to vote for the PNC.
